The Diocese of New Ulm is dedicated to ensuring a safe environment in Church ministry. We are committed to work with our community to help prevent the abuse of children and young people.
For more than a decade, we have required participation in a comprehensive abuse awareness and prevention program for priests and deacons, diocesan and parish staff, Catholic school employees, parents, students, and volunteers who work with minors. We also provide age-appropriate personal safety education for children and young people in parish faith formation programs and Catholic schools across the diocese.
Together, parents, parish and Catholic school leaders and others are working to create a safe environment for children and young people – within Church ministry and throughout our broader community.
Under the settlement reached with victims and survivors on March 10, 2020, the diocese committed to 17 child protection protocols, designed to help protect children and young people from abuse and prevent sexual misconduct in ministry. The Diocese of New Ulm has already enacted many of these protocols, and diocesan and parish leaders continue to be committed to fulfilling each of them now and into the future. See the Protocols page for the full listing of protocols.
